I am a classically trained pianist and composer with an MM and DMA in music composition and just recently moved to the Oklahoma City area. I've been giving private piano, composition and music theory lessons for the past fifteen years. Before that I taught classes at the university level in music theory and electronic music. My music has been performed in the US and Europe and I've played and premiered new music in the US by other living composers. Recordings of my playing can be found on albums published by Centaur Records and Capstone Records.
Music has always been my passion and I teach music so I can share that passion with others. In addition to giving private lessons I've been involved with a startup company called Illiac Software that develops educational software for teaching music theory. I'm also a member of the Norman Area Music Teachers Association, Oklahoma Music Teachers Association and the Music Teachers National Association.
These are the qualities that I strive for as a teacher:
Motivation: It's important that students see that they are making progress and are self motivated. Playing in front of other people and seeing their peers do the same is essential. I teach my students to play music that they are interested in but also invite them to explore other genres.
Positivity: I maintain a very positive lesson environment. I teach my younger students through activities and games designed to teach musicality and music fundamentals.
Creativity: I naturally encourage creativity in my students and include composition activities and assignments in my lessons.
Individuality: My teaching strategy is different for each one of my students and depends on individual learning paces on styles. I try to bring the best out of all my students without imposing a one-size-fits-all curriculum.
After a few months, a beginning student will start to build a small repertoire of pieces that can be performed for friends and family. My long-term goal for my students is to encourage them to strive for a deep sense of musicality and musical understanding.

I also drive to locations if the drive is within approximately 15 mins. and in the Oklahoma City area. These are my in-home lesson rates (equivalent to my studio rates plus an additional $15):
