I am a classically trained pianist and composer with an MM and DMA in music composition and just recently moved to the Dallas area. I've been giving private piano, composition and music theory lessons for the past ten years. Before that I taught classes at the university level in music theory and electronic music. My music has been performed in the US and Europe and I've played and premiered new music in the US by other living composers. Recordings of my playing can be found on albums published by Centaur Records and Capstone Records.
Music has always been my passion and I teach music so I can share that passion with others. Recently I've been involved with a startup company called Illiac Software that develops educational software for teaching music theory. I'm also a member of the Dallas Music Teachers Association, Texas Music Teachers Association and the Music Teachers National Association.
These are qualities that are important to me as a teacher:
Motivation: It's important that my students see that they are making progress and are self motivated, and have opportunities to play in front of other people. I also teach my students the music that they are interested in, whether it's pop, jazz or classical.
Positivity: I maintain a very positive lesson environment. Younger students are taught through activities and games designed to teach musicality and music fundamentals.
Creativity: I naturally encourage creativity in my students and include composition activities and assignments in my lessons.
Individuality: My teaching strategy is different for each one of my students and depends on individual learning paces on styles. Ultimately, I try to bring the best out of all my students without imposing any fixed idea on how they should progress.
After a few months, a beginning student will start to build a small repertoire of pieces that can be performed for friends and family. My long-term goal for my students is to encourage them to strive for a deep sense of musicality and musical understanding, a goal that I myself am always striving for.
These are the rates I charge when teaching from my studio location:
I also drive to locations if the drive is within 15 mins. or so and in the Dallas area. These are my in-home lesson rates (equal to my studio rates plus an additional $15):
I teach children or adults at any age or ability level. I also offer a free trial lesson so you can see what a lesson is like. Please contact me for more information.
